I first want to say thank you to everyone that voted for our video submission to the Rockler Nordy’s Contest that took place on the Rockler Facebook page over the past few months.

The challenge was to create a video less than 2-minutes long that answered the question, “What inspires you to be a woodworker?” At first I was a little miffed by the challenge. I have never thought of myself as a woodworker. I don’t make hope chests or jewelry boxes or turn wood or anything of the sort. In fact, I would call myself a framing carpenter above anything else. But as I thought more and more about it I realized that anyone who takes a piece of wood, envisions its possibilities, and then commits to turning it into something functional and beautiful, is in fact a woodworker. I set off to make my video.

I was really proud of the final product. It represented our tiny house and how it had been shaped and created from just slices of logs really. Alas, I did not win. And that is really okay though because some of the other admissions were outstanding. I watched almost every video and really sat in amazement seeing the artistry of some of the entrants. Absolutely incredible.

So with that I invite you to take a look at this years contest winners. See if you too aren’t inspired and motivated!
