How-To Build Your Own Truss

We hope you enjoy our latest “How-To” which covers constructing your own truss system. Of course, engineered trusses can be purchased from a truss manufacturer such as our own local Bankston Truss Company. Of course this comes with some expense and oftentimes leaves little room for adjustment on the fly. And most of us know that when building a tiny house (where there are few blueprints and sometimes none at all) flexibility on site is key!

Having said that we hope you enjoy our video and the way we chose to build our trusses and install the skeleton of our own tiny house roof!

As always we encourage you to subscribe to our channel on YouTube, view our project photos on Flickr, become a part of the community on Facebook, or even join us on Google+.

I also want to invite you to our weekly podcast on BlogTalkRadio. You can listen in every Thursday at 2:30pm EST, join the live chatroom, or subscribe via iTunes.

      Lickety-split, right? HAHAHAHA

Those are not trusses.  They are rafters with collar ties.

Technically, they are trusses. Every 3rd one is a rafter with a collar tie. However the collar tie is for looks only. They are there waiting to be dressed out with 1″x4″ to make an “exposed beam” look. The remaining are, by definition, trusses. It is all in the semantics though. I appreciate your picking up on this and hope that no matter what you would like to call them you still were able to enjoy the video.
